"Sarah" is a life-sized bronze sculpture of a lovely young lady from Dallas, Texas. When we flew out to photograph Sarah she was 10 ½ years old, with beautiful long red hair with golden highlights. We asked her what she liked to do when she was sitting outdoors in the beautiful garden area behind her parents’ home. Sarah quickly answered: “Read a great book!” So, we had her go get her favorite book, which was author Natalie Babbitt’s “Tuck Everlasting”. If you look closely you will see Sarah’s sculpture is reading that very book.
With Sarah’s tall, slim figure and her natural grace, it was a real joy to sculpt her in clay. My challenge is to always portray my subject's personality as well as her physical appearance. In this sculpture you can see "Sarah" as a quiet, reserved young woman with an inner confidence and a calm assurance that she can handle any situation with poise and grace.
The final sculpture was cast into bronze by Art Castings of Loveland, CO. As always, Anita made two trips from Ohio to Colorado to supervise the work and assist in the special custom patinas in order to assure the final look portrays her subject as she intended. "Sarah" was then shipped to Dallas, where she is now installed in the garden area of her parents' home. The real Sarah is the daughter of Brint and Amanda Ryan.
This sculpture will be cast in a Limited Edition of 12 and will make a wonderful addition to Gardens and Libraries. Art Castings of Colorado is one of the finest Art Foundries in the US and their superior bronze castings and fine finishes withstand the elements of time when installed and maintained indoors or outdoors. The patinas were created by using Liver of Sulfur, rubbed back to reveal the highlights, with the metal heated to accept Ferric Nitrate in order to achieve the beautiful transparent red browns.
